Faceless, But Not Lifeless

The growth of human race is not possible without the existence of a womb, where a mother carries the burden of tremendous responsibilities, not just a child. She is the mother, sister, daughter, wife and a VICTIM of human cruelty. Women who possess equal rights in all the major religious scriptures gifted to the humanity has been chained in gender discrimination and derogatory attitude of the male dominated atrocious society of the India for countless years.

Women a symbol of love, kindness, emotions and beauty is disfigured badly by the wandering devils of male chauvinist world who are born to assault the bearer of human origin. Rape, murder and humiliation and to cover up all in darkness the powerful hooligans burn the innocent faces of helpless woman by acid attack in these days of rising crimes against women.

"It is pathetic. Such incidents still continue to take place," a bench headed by Chief Justice RM Lodha said. "Why is there laxity on your part?" the bench also comprising justices Kurian Joseph and RF Nariman asked the Centre and issued notices to it and state governments on a plea for framing rehabilitation policy for acid attack victims.

Earlier, the apex court had set a deadline of March 31 this year for state governments to frame rules for regulating sale of acid and other corrosive substances to prevent their misuse.

Though, the Supreme Court of India had directed acid attack a non-bailable offence but still the criminals are easily getting bails. Chanchal, whose face was destroyed in an acid attack at her native Chitnawan village of Patna district by four people in the year 2012, later bailed despite all valid evidences against them. "No one even tried to contact me since the apex court passed the order", said Chanchal. Let's pledge to help acid attack victims and make efforts to help them in getting their right, legally, financially and morally.

Aptitude Matters More Than Language To Qualify UPSC Exam

A country which is an abode of people from different religions and where language changed after crossing few miles and where almost two dozen of languages are recognised at the national level, the role of civil servants is very dynamic as well as diplomatic. A country stricken by poverty, inequality, regionalism, sectarian violence, communalism and large scale corruption desperately seeking well qualified and smart bureaucrats who may anticipate a problem and can act intelligently to deal a sensitive issue. These civil servants most of the time serve an state other than their native state where tactics and strategies play more dominant role which one acquires from sharp intellect, reasoning abilities and numerical skills. Only an active and smart person can manage a crisis with much ease than a guy who simply mugged-up facts and figures.

Though government assured that there would be "no discrimination based on language" as large crowds of civil service aspirants protested in Delhi against an aptitude test that they believe gives an unfair advantage to English-speaking students."We sympathise with the students, we are looking at their problem with all seriousness," Jitender Singh, Minister of State at the Prime Minister's Office. Thousand of civil service aspirants from the Hindi medium background want to scrap the preliminary aptitude test in the Civil Services examination as they feel the new pattern is not in favour of Hindi and regional language aspirants. The objective type test introduced in 2011 has also been challenged in the court.

The question arises, is the knowledge of social sciences and languages more relevant in settling the practical issues? or various bureaucratic positions demands executives with better aptitude and reasoning. The answer is obvious that only theoretical and factual knowledge doesn't help much in taking bold decisions in case of emergencies. Attributes like good aptitude, managerial skills, interpersonal skills, leadership skills and decision making abilities are some of the pre-requisites of a good civil servant. Hence, UPSC should continue to focus on aptitude test to produce quality bureaucrats.

India's Potential And It's Role In BRICKS

BRICS; the association of world's most powerful developing economies viz, Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa is the propeller of world economy and if we put aside these BRICS countries from the world map, the picture will be very dismal and gloomy as majority of countries in Europe and America are struggling with demand crisis and low productivity. BRICS gained a distinct prominence because of large geographical boundaries, abundance of resources, educated and skilled population and a huge internal market. Fortunately, India is a country thriving on immense natural resources, a section which is well conversant in English, large internal market and people with enterprising skills.

Recently, prime minister Narendra Modi attended the BRICS summit in Brazil and clears India's stand for sustainable and inclusive growth. He said," BRICS was in a position where it wields enough horizontal influence to compel the world to take notice, but there was need to deepen the bonds vertically. We must go beyond summit & leader-centric deliberations and champion sub-national level exchanges".

India has a great role to play in the near future. Various agreements and MoUs have already been signed between BRICS development banks to promote intra-BRICS trade and investment. Prime Minister suggested that the council should work in close coordination with the development banks and contact group on trade and investment issues. The current economic significance of the BRICS in the global market is going more and more power centric as all the five countries have a unique niche in world politics and it is quite parallel to the old axiom that, who posses power really rules the world.

The existence of BRICS is not restricted to economic and political power and countries like India can play a vital role in resolving various social issues like empowerment of women, health and sanitation, energy crisis and racial discrimination. India has sound experience in dealing with such issues at national level and this experience can work potently in resolving the issues of BRICS countries.

Full Independence of Judiciary for Smooth and Unbiased Functioning

There is always a great need of independent judiciary to ensure that all the organs of the state function according to the provisions of the constitution, to ensure that the judiciary is free from all ambiguities and pressures and to deliver judicial justice not partial justice. The legislature,  Executive and the Judiciary are the three branches of the government and to avoid conflict between the three, each should be independent of the other.

Judiciary is an instrument to garner justice and equality in the society and it is the necessity that constitution of India should separate the judiciary from the other departments. Most of the members of the Constituent Assembly also fought in the freedom struggle of India and they were absolutely displeased with the British colonial judiciary. Laws made during the British regime were known as black laws and the power of judges was very limited. The liberated India feels the need of independent and committed judiciary. The founding fathers of the constitution presented a judiciary which was the guarantor of statutory as well as the fundamental rights of every citizen.

Judicial independence encountered many setbacks pertaining to the appointment and the transfer of judges. Courts always demanded the independence of judiciary, reiterating the fact that judiciary is a basic feature of the constitution and it is the pre-requisite for the smooth functioning of the constitution and establishing the rule of law. Keeping judiciary free from executive and making it self-competent issues like  security of  the judges tenure, salaries and allowances should not be influenced by legislature, powers and jurisdiction of the Supreme Court; Supreme Court shouldn't be allowed to curtail the power of judges and above all state shall take steps to separate the judiciary from the executive in the public services of the state.

Indian women under the siege but not protected

Gender inequality is an outrageous issue in the world's second largest populated country; a country which is highly diversified in terms of religions, languages and geographical factors is integrated to suppress women rights as the male dominated culture of majority of states allow little freedom to the socio-economic development of these women. They have been treated as the sub-standard creature of the God and to bear the wrath of males is considered as their duty. These social embargos and unequal treatment drastically affected the personal and social development of the women  in a very pathetic way.

Deprived of many basic human rights they are forced to marry at young age, that is why only 54 percent of Indian women are literate against 76 percent of men. Not only socially they too lack in substantial financial assets. In states like Rajasthan women work outside for livelihood apart bearing the household responsibility. Despite inheritance laws women are devoid of property rights. As per the HDI 2013 ranking gender equality in India is worst in south Asia, next to Afghanistan. Even countries like Nepal, Bangladesh and Pakistan stands above India.

Girls are considered as a burden to parents due to the dowry and gold jewellery required for their marriages. A strong preference for sons is the root cause behind the uneven sex ratio. Domestic violence, workplace harassment and eve teasing on public places made their lives really troublesome. Rape has become one of the most frequent word these days in all daily newspapers and dowry related deaths is still a major concern for parents. To bring equality and change, government need to prepare a proper action plan, need to generate awareness among the women for their rights and strict laws along with immediate execution will somehow help to curb the atrocities on women.

Stop Cruelty Against Animal

The first and basic step in this regard is to go vegetarian and say a big no to non-vegetarian food. Your small sacrifice can bring a big change in the society and it is so simple, want to know, how? Nowadays, the alternative food to chicken is soya. You can make most of the non-vegetarian recipes by using soya, it will taste like chicken. 

Join a online community for human rights where you can meet the like minded people and can keep yourself update about the ongoing activities in your nearest areas. You can join these groups and can help them with your gifted skills in the spare time. Lastly, with your creative ideas you can start a campaign for animal rights with the help of your community members. You can write, make speeches and interact with students in schools and colleges to make the campaigns effective and successful.
